When it comes to food allergy awareness, Kristin provides the following programs in her home state of Minnesota as she is a licensed trainer with the Minnesota Center for Professional Development. Part of her training is to teach food allergy continuing education to early childhood and school-age providers and educators:

I provide onsite-sponsored trainings and in-person trainings through Think Small(www.thinksmall.org). My courses are also offered online through Eager-to-Learn (www.eagertolearn.org) and a part of the professional development resources with the Minnesota Association for the Education of Young Children and the Minnesota School-Age Care Alliance (Minnesota AEYC-SACA). The in-person courses are

Caring for Food Allergic Children in an Early Childhood Care Environment. This training provides guidance on how to handle daily care, manage safety, and promote inclusiveness of food allergic children. You’ll learn about food allergies and intolerances, the identification, treatment, and medication management of allergic reactions. Create a parent/care provider partnership based on mutual responsibility and respect that ensures the safety of all allergic children.

Food Allergic Plans of Protection: Demystifying Food Allergy Policy/Guidelines, 504 and Individual Health Plans. This training provides guidance to school/district personnel on how to formulate comprehensive food allergy (fa) policy/guidelines, develop individualized, fa Health Plans and/or 504 plans, and build an Awareness Communication Program to keep fa on the top of the minds of all stakeholders. Understand the dangers, the prevention, identification, and treatment of an allergic reaction.

Diminish Food Allergy Bullying with Inclusiveness. This training provides strategies on how to create an inclusive environment by minimizing the spotlight of difference, teach appreciation, compassion, and tolerance to children and formulate a zero tolerance policy with consequences, based on age, for food allergy bullying.
